234 - Perception

How do I determine

That other things exist

How can I be sure that

The world isn’t just a mist?

A complicated tangle

Of existential dreams

A weird and tortured vortex

Of my wants and needs and means?

How can I be sure

That other lives are real

That I’m not the only person

Does everybody feel?

Am I sure we’re all

Speaking the same tongue

Or do I just imagine

All the people I’m among?

Before I was alive

There was no universe

In the moment that I die

Will everything disperse?

Am I just an island

In a vast sea of illusion

Are all my interactions

Mere distractions from confusion?

I think what I am saying

Is that I know I am alive

But all the things I see

I make up just to survive

To anybody reading this

Convince me you are you

Because how can I be sure

That anything is true?
