Nothing stays the same

This was once an empty void

Then stars began to burn

And the emptiness - destroyed

Matter coalesced

And planets became formed

Asteroids and moons

The universe transformed

After billions of years

Appeared a planet we call Earth

Suspended deep in space

The world of our birth

From nothing into rock

This planet’s changed over time

It’s now teeming with life

We all evolved from slime

The slime turned into cells

Those cells turned into fish

The fish turned into mammals

Now the mammals sit and wish

We look up at the stars

And in awe we stare

And ask ourselves the question

What else might be out there?
